Best Lenses for Street Photography

Street photography has changed drastically throughout the years.

There are lots of forms of it from architecture to black and white.

However, it’s just not all about the camera, but the lens as well.

Here are some of the best lenses for street photography.

85mm Lens

Yes, the 85mm lens makes this list.

Reason being is because of the depth it can give you to isolate your subject.

Place it on a crop sensor and it will stand at around 130ishmm.

Not to mention all that bokeh balls you will get.

This lens is also great for starters that don’t want to get right into people’s faces.

50mm Lens

A focal length classic.

This will give you the field of view that your eye would see.

Enough to give you some background and enough to isolate your subject.

The 50mm is a must have for all street photographers.

Each camera company makes affordable ones with an aperture of f/1.8.

24mm Lens

Probably a very underrated lens for street photography.

I tend to use this focal range a lot since it doesn’t distort much of my images.

Buildings will manage to stay straight and people won’t be looking much like aliens.

If you are trying to capture more in a big space, then the 24mm is the perfect focal length.

Recommended for beginners in street photography.

24-70mm Lens

This is my got to lens when it comes to street photography.

The versatility of this lens is perfect from wide shots to tight shots.

I don’t change lenses as often because of the 24-70mm lens.

The Tamron 24-70 G2 is my favorite due to having an 2.8 aperture and image stabilization.

Not the ideal lens for street photography, but its pros outweigh its cons.

35mm Lens

Another classic that rivals the 50mm lens.

The 35mm is another fan favorite due to not being so wide, yet not too tight.

This lens is considered to also be a great travel lens especially if you are heading out of the city.

Many photographers can find the 35mm to be the perfect versatile lens.

One of the best lenses to tell a story in my opinion.

Conclusion

When it comes to choosing the right lens for street photography, analyze what you want to capture.

Is it the small details?

Or is it capturing the whole story?

Either way, you will always be capturing the moment.
