What’s In My Camera Bag?

Every camera bag has different gear depending on the type of photography.

From urban to nature, or a mix of both, some camera equipment is intended for a specific task.

It is admiring to check other people’s photography gear and knowing why they chose this item over the other.

Here I discuss what’s in my camera bag.

What's In My Camera Bag?

Bag

To begin with, I haven’t had the best of luck with camera bags thus far and I’m actually in the market to buying one soon.

For now, I roam around in a regular backpack from United By Blue.

However, it’s not a camera bag, but it is not bad at all during light rain.

Nonetheless, this bag can be best used in small hikes and in the cities due to the design.

It is not the ideal bag for me and I will have to invest a new camera bag for my ideal three features:

  1. Anti-theft – for around cities for urban photography.
  2. Water-resistant – for those rainy Seattle days.
  3. Durability – for the amount of gear I will carry around

The Camera Body

Honestly, I really don’t remember when I purchased my Canon 6D, probably around 2014-2015.

That doesn’t mean I only been shooting for about 4 years. I go way back to 2010, but this isn’t what I am discussing.

The Canon 6D is probably the most affordable full frame DSLR camera starting at $1000.

It’s a beast of a camera for landscape and some portraits.

Why did I mention “some”? Well let’s take a look at some pros and cons.

Pros:

  1. Budget friendly
  2. Great in low light
  3. Durability

 Cons:

  1. Eleven autofocus points
  2. Noise can be a problem depending on ISO
  3. One SD card slot

I plan on replacing my Canon 6D for my personal preferences, which I will discuss in a future blog post.

Lens

My ideal lens doesn’t exist in my world.

At the moment, I only own one lens in my backpack and that is the Tamron 24-70 2.8 G2, which is a tank of a lens.

Though it’s a 2.8 aperture, I rather take a wide prime 1.4 lens.

On the contrary, this lens is great for portrait and nature photography.

Laptop

For the most part, I don’t always carry my laptop around, unless I’m traveling far.

My current laptop is the Apple MacBook Pro 2011, which is a beast of a computer.

Recently, I upgraded my ram and memory and it runs faster than ever. I won’t be upgrading this for a while now. (Thank goodness!)

Accessories

Most of us carry different little items here and there.

I have compiled some of my items that I usually take in hikes or to the local coffee shop.

  • Extra battery – at least an extra one
  • iPhone 7 Plus – need to post those photos on Instagram some how
  • OlloClip for iPhone – personal favorite item for taking macro shots
  • Extra Memory Cards – need I say more?
  • Lens Cloth – always carry thousands of these
  • Flashlight – when you are lost in the woods
  • Ponchos – for when it pours
  • Earphones – for when you don’t feel like talking to anybody
  • Rain cover for bag pack – even though it’s water resistant, can’t take that chance
  • ND and Polarizer filters – for those rare times you want to get misty water
  • Wireless Remote Control – great for 25-30 second exposures
  • Shutter Remote Release – best for over 30 second exposures
  • Water Bottle – stay hydrated
  • Tripod – a photographer’s staple

Ultimately, the stuff in my camera bag will constantly change.

As long as the research is done, I’m pretty sure I will be content on what gear I’ll purchase for my photography workflow.
