Street Photography with a 24-70 2.8 Lens
Whenever you hear street photography, usually a prime lens comes to mind for sharper images.
Sometimes, that is not the case.
For the past year and a half, I have been using a 24-70 2.8 lens from Tamron.
It’s not the ideal set up for street photos, but it has gotten me some great shots.
Here are 5 tips on how to shoot street photography with a 24-70 2.8 lens.
Think Versatility
One of the best features of the 24-70 2.8 that it can be used for wide angle photos at 24mm and street portraits at 70mm.
If you are an introvert photographer, this can be very helpful.
You don’t really have to move much to get a shot.
Aperture of 2.8
In addition to versatility, an aperture of 2.8 is great for low light.
It might not be ideal, but that’s why you have ISO.
I have gotten lots of great depth in my photos as the one posted below.
And when there is depth, there is bokeh!
I’m a sucker for bokeh, especially at the 50-70mm range.
Great for Beginners
Remember the part of versatility?
It’s a great lens for beginners who don’t know what prime lens to get.
Maybe you are a 24mm or 50mm type of person.
Either way, you’ll find yourself probably shooting one focal length over the other.
Once you find it, you’ll be wanting more light with a prime lens.
The “Compression” at 70mm
If you want to capture some “tight” shots, 70mm can do just that.
Imagine being in an alley or some place where everything is so close to you.
Standing at the right spot can get you that “compressed” feel in a photo.
And as mentioned before, the 70mm focal length can get you great depth.
Weather Sealing
Now a days, most lenses have weather sealing.
This is great for street photography in rainy weather.
Don’t be afraid to get a little wet.
I believe that one can get great and moody photos in light rain.
Now that you know some ins and outs of a 24-70, go out and give it a shot.
Have you used a 24-70 lens before?
