5 Instagram Tips From Experience
Everyone is trying to find the easiest way to have their photography do really great on Instagram.
However, the hard truth is that there is no easy way on Instagram, especially these days.
With that dreading algorithm, one has to find ways to grow and showcase their work to the world.
Without further ado, let’s get into these five Instagram tips.
Geotag
If you haven’t been tagging locations on your photos, you are totally doing Instagram wrong.
I know some people like to keep spots a secret, but why not tag the city, state or country at least?
This way, when people look up locations, your photo will stand out above the rest and can even make it to the top nine of that location.
You’ll grow a local following and this can help in the long run, especially with gigs.
I’ll get more into growing locally later in this post.
Relevant Hashtags
I know most of you use hashtags such as #artofvisuals or #shotzdelight, which is great for growing in the Instagram community.
You’re allowed up 30 hashtags, so use them wisely.
I would suggest adding hashtags that are relevant to the photo you are about to post.
For example, if you post a photo that has a sunset or sunrise, go ahead and add that and as well the location it was taken such as #Seattle.
Remember, growing locally is key!
Consistency
Coming in at number 3 is keeping a clean and tidy Instagram feed.
It doesn’t matter what tones you use or if you mix and match city with nature. As long as it has that one thing that makes it unique and stand out from the rest of the feeds, it will keep bringing in people to your feed.
You won’t shine over night, it comes through working hard and finding what you love to shoot.
Honestly, I sometimes think I found my niche, but then I find new tones I want to work it and that’s fine.
I currently got into street photography being inspired by other photographers.
Just work on it day by day and you will find your niche.
Following Photographers That Inspire You
Next up is following photographers that you look up and see how you can build from them.
I followed a couple of photographers that shoot mainly sunsets and sunrises and that’s how one of my niches developed.
That’s not the only reason to follow them.
Let them know that they have inspired you to go out and captured photos.
It’s a community coming together and bringing positivity.
This will allow you to grow not only on Instagram but as a person as well.
It sure did for me. I’m not saying be on Instagram 24/7, but be active, letting people know you are out there.
Grow Locally
This last tip connects with all of the above.
I once read that if you want to get out there, the first place to start is locally.
Make things look differently around you, get to know the community especially with photography meetings and working with small businesses.
Build your business around the community.
This is very important knowing that it can land you gigs and exposure, especially in a small town.
Make the most of it.
